It became clear nearly a century ago that many genes likely influence how tall a person grows, though little progress, if any, has followed in defining the myriad genes. Now an international research team brings light to this age-old question by pinpointing a genetic variant associated with human height — the first consistent genetic link to be reported.

School may be out for the summer, but classes will soon be in session at the Ó³»­´«Ã½. The second installment of the institute’s annual summer lecture series, Midsummer Nights’ Science, begins on July 11. Through a series of four weekly talks that are free and open to the public, local scientists affiliated with the Ó³»­´«Ã½ will discuss recent advances in genomic research, the implications for not only science but also society, and the crucial questions that remain to be answered.
